Staffordshire cyclist Dan Bigham has bagged a silver medal after shining at his first ever Olympics in Paris.

Dan won silver as part of the men’s Track Cycling Team Pursuit, who were narrowly defeated by Australia in the final earlier this evening.

Born in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Dan is considered one of the top endurance track cyclists in the world.  With a number of accolades to his name, such as becoming the 2022 world champion in men's team pursuit, he broke the UCI Hour Record, and in 2023, Dan gained a silver medal in the individual pursuit at the World Championships.

Dan joins fellow Staffordshire athletes including cyclist Sophie Capewell,  swimmer Adam Peaty, canoeists Joe Clarke and Adam Burgess, all of whom won medals at the games.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“I think it’s fair to say that Staffordshire has definitely played its role in adding to Team GB’s medal haul at this year’s games.

“We clearly have some amazing sporting talent right across the county and that was a brave performance by Dan.  He’s a super athlete and has proved it over numerous years and competitions now.  I think I can speak for everyone in Staffordshire when I say that we are incredibly proud of all our Olympians.  Well done all.”
