The Swan Junction, in Burton, has been completely resurfaced in a seven week overhaul.
A key junction in Burton has been completely resurfaced, thanks to a £600,000 highways initiative.
The Swan Junction, which sits on the A511 Ashby Road at the south-eastern end of Burton Bridge, has undergone a seven-week overhaul as part of Staffordshire County Council’s programme of road repairs in the area.
In addition to completely resurfacing the well-used junction, highways crews have repaired drains, cut back vegetation, replaced traffic lights and guard rails and refreshed the road markings.
The project, which started in July, was completed on Friday 6 September.
Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:
“It is fantastic to see another major highways scheme completed in Burton and I want to thank everyone for their patience whilst the works took place.
“As with any well-used routes, the impact of the high volumes of traffic over the years meant that Swan Junction was in need of repairs. Our crews worked around the clock for seven weeks to make that happen whilst liaising with utility companies to minimise disruption as much as possible.
“Drivers can now look forward to smoother journeys along this route for many years to come.”
The works are all part of a wider £50 million investment into the county’s roads over three years, which has seen several key roads and junctions in Burton resurfaced. This includes the Clay Mills A38 Interchange, A5121 Derby Road, A511 Horninglow Road North, A511 Ashby Road Beaufort Junction and the Horninglow Street/Guild Street Junction.
Work continues on the upgrade to the Branston A38 Interchange. Further major resurfacing will take place in the New Year on phase two of the Derby Road scheme between the Pirelli Roundabout and Derby Turn and phase two of the Horninglow Road North project from Farm Road to Kitling Greaves Lane.
