Cllr Simon Tagg
Staff from the public health team at Staffordshire County Council and Community Home Solutions will be visiting off-gas properties in Stafford and South Staffordshire during September.
The team will be explaining how people could be eligible for free home energy upgrades, all funded by the Staffordshire Warmer Homes Scheme. People can then contact the council directly and sign up.
The scheme, which is due to close on Friday 18 October, is run by Staffordshire County Council, in partnership with district and borough councils and Community Home Solutions. It helps residents from the poorest communities who are off the gas network, to heat their homes for less using greener and more energy efficient solutions. These include air source heat pumps, cavity wall insulation, solar panels and much more.
Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Change at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Helping to improve the heating solutions in old homes by fitting new energy efficient and renewable heating measures is a priority for this project.
“It means we can help residents to stay warmer through the winter, help reduce their carbon footprint and save them money at the same time. And it’s all free of charge for the household, as the project covers the costs of installation.
“With only a few weeks until the scheme closes, we’re keen to reach as many eligible residents as possible. That’s why the team will be visiting local communities to help people apply for the scheme.”
Eligible households need to earn less than £36k per year or claim a means tested benefit, and the property needs to be off-gas.
People can apply online on the Staffordshire Warmer Homes webpage.
