Highways repairs to start in Cheadle next week

Motorists are being advised about road repairs due to start in Cheadle on Monday 16 September.

The safety repairs around Tape Street between the two roundabouts and on Well Street and Ashbourne Road, are being carried out by Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams and are part of a wider £50 million investment into the county’s roads over three years.

Crews will focus on fixing potholes and defects on the road and on the two islands, with the work expected to take three days to complete.  The majority of the work will be carried out overnight, which should help to minimise inconvenience for drivers.

The localised repairs will help keep the road in a safe condition and are ahead of a major highways improvement scheme to resurface the road, planned for the next financial year.

To make sure the work can be carried out safely and to minimise disruption, a combination of temporary road and lane closures will be in operation.  A signed diversion will be in place during the closures and access to businesses and residents in the works area will be maintained where possible.

Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:

"We know how important it is to maintain our road network and to keep road users safe, which is why we’re carrying out these works.

“This is a busy part of the town with heavy traffic, that takes its toll on the roads, so the repairs are welcome news.  Crews will be mainly working at night time to help limit the disruption and hope to get the repairs completed in three days.

“As always, the crews will be doing their best to get the work done as quickly and efficiently as possible and I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and co-operation.”
