Key South Staffordshire M54 gateway to be fully resurfaced

A key gateway to the M54 in South Staffordshire is to be fully resurfaced.

The £480,000 project, which will be carried out by highways crews from Staffordshire County Council, will see the Cannock Road, Featherstone Interchange junction of the A460 and M54 completely resurfaced over three weeks.

Works will also include the cutting back of tress and shrubs, emptying gulleys, and refreshing all road markings.

Due to the nature and scale of the location, large machinery must be used. As a result, the route will need to be closed temporarily to through traffic. A signed diversion route will be in place.

Initial works will take place under lane narrowing from 18 September, followed by road closures from 22 September. All road closures will be in place between the hours of 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways Mark Deaville said:

“We have been aware that this location has needed resurfacing for a while, and have listened to local people when prioritising our major road renewal schemes. I’m pleased that work has started at this location, and our crews will be doing everything they can to minimise disruption at this key location, including nighttime works.

“Even so, disruption at such an important location is inevitable, so we will ask people to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys. Once finished, people will notice a dramatic difference in the quality of their journeys, and the road should last for around 20 years.”
