People interested in how the county council and partners are making Staffordshire more sustainable are invited to a meeting where they can find out more.
Getting organisations working together, helping residents to visualise their carbon footprint and creating plans to decarbonise taxis, are all helping to make Staffordshire more sustainable.
These are just some of the successes of the Staffordshire Sustainability Board (SSB). The board will be hosting its third public meeting on Wednesday 18 September from 3pm – 5pm at County Buildings in Stafford. People can also watch the meeting live here.
The board is made up of elected members from councils across Staffordshire. It was formed in 2022 to encourage closer working between council leaders and chief executives, to reduce Staffordshire’s carbon emissions and reach net zero.
Over the last year, the board has collaborated with several organisations including Climate Matters Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Integrated Care Board (NHS), National Grid and Energy Savings Trust, to bring greener changes. It has also been leading on work to help kick start a Staffordshire-wide agreement on taxi decarbonisation.
Chair of the Staffordshire Sustainability Board, Simon Tagg, said:
“We are pleased with the progress the board has made in its second year.
“We have joined the Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent Climate Commission, responded to Audit Commission consultation regarding the national Waste Strategy and supported a bid for consultancy funds by the Midlands Net Zero Hub. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to create a more sustainable future for Staffordshire.”
Staff from the county council will also be attending the Climate Expo and Sustainability Conference in Uttoxeter on 20 September 2024.
