People are invited to a free family open day at Perton Library to celebrate the Staffordshire History Festival

The event on Saturday 12 October from 10am to 3pm will include a range of fun activities, giving people a chance to learn more about the county’s history, heritage and culture.

As well as highlighting what Staffordshire Libraries have to offer, people will get the chance to browse or talk to over 20 organisations and get hands on with fun activities. There will even be an opportunity for people to bring along their antiques and have them valued.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities at Staffordshire County Council said:

“We’re thrilled to be hosting another fair at the library and this year, it’s  with a history theme.

“Our heritage and culture play an important role in what makes our county a wonderful place to visit and live in and this is a great way to promote that. We have over 20 exhibitors on the day covering a whole range of fun subjects from family history, right back to the Stone age, so something for everyone.

“Events like these are great and a brilliant example of how important libraries are for bringing communities together.  Staff and volunteers have worked incredibly hard to pull together such a packed programme so we hope people will come along on the day.”

All the activities are FREE to attend and include:

  • Explore the Stone Age with a re-enactor and activities for the children
  • Meet the Medieval Wise Woman and herbalist – gruesome medicines and natural remedies
  • Meet the team from English Heritage, Boscobel House
  • Museum of Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire
  • Museum of Cannock Chase
  • Apedale Heritage Centre
  • Antiques Valuations 10am – 1pm

The event and wider Staffordshire History Festival comes at a time as the county council develops it’s cultural strategy.  The plan recognises and promotes the contribution that culture, heritage, sport and leisure all make towards Staffordshire being a great place to live and work.’
