Work progresses on Coton Lane in Tamworth.
A £1.6 million scheme to resurface a major road in Tamworth is about to progress to the second of five phases.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews are completely resurfacing C03070 Coton Lane, from the junction of the A513 Comberford Road and the southern junction of Fontenaye Road.
This huge road repair project, which commenced on 16 September, has already seen crews replace kerbs and ironwork, upgrade crossings, patch footways and repair drains.
The next stage of this highways improvement scheme will start on Monday 21 October and last for around two days. It will see crews carry out essential utility survey works along Coton Lane ahead of the carriageway reconstruction works.
During this time, road closures will vary dependent on the section being surveyed and access for residents will be maintained through clearly signed diversion routes. The road will be closed from 7.30am and will reopen by 3pm.
Phase three will then see carriageway reconstruction works begin on Thursday 21 November.
Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:
“It is fantastic to see another major highways project on track and progressing well.
“Our crews are working diligently to prepare Coton Lane to be completely reconstructed and resurfaced. By the end of the year, Tamworth’s residents will be able to enjoy driving along a new smooth surface, just before the worst of the winter weather hits us.”
This scheme is part of Staffordshire County Council’s £50 million investment in maintaining and improving the county’s highways over the next three years.
Rob Pritchard, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways south, said:
“Coton Lane is a well-used road in Tamworth and the heavy traffic over the years means that it is necessary to completely resurface the route.
“This will, inevitably, mean some delays and we understand that this is frustrating. We have already written to residents and businesses who will be affected by any closures.
“Please be assured that our crews will do their very best to complete the repairs with as minimal disruption as possible.”
