Staffordshire has made good progress in waste management, having successfully recycled nearly 60,000 tonnes of waste at its Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) last year.
Now the county council is thanking residents for their efforts in the increase in recycling and re-use and helping to make Staffordshire more sustainable. The praise comes alongside Recycling Week which starts today and runs to 18 October.
Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Change at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Increasing the amount of recycling remains a priority for the county council.
“Thanks to the collective efforts of our residents, we have recycled nearly 60,000 tonnes of waste in the last year, which is a great achievement. This is testament to the dedication and environmental consciousness of our community. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together. Let us continue to work hand in hand to make Staffordshire a model of sustainability and environmental responsibility.”
In addition, the authority has also enhanced its collection efforts for reusable items through various innovative re-use schemes. These initiatives have seen the collection of:
- 28,000 litres of paint through the PaintCycle program
- 550 pieces of medical care equipment via the MediCycle initiative
- Over 10,000 technology items through the TechCycle scheme
Councillor Tagg also highlighted the importance of these programmes in reducing waste and promoting the re-use of valuable resources and said:
“Our re-use schemes not only help in minimising waste but also provide essential items to those in need.
“The success of PaintCycle, MediCycle, and TechCycle is a clear indication of our community’s commitment to sustainability.”
