Residents of South Staffordshire will soon see progress on the repairs to the Wombourne Household Waste Recycling Centre, which has been closed for essential safety reasons.
The Wombourne site was closed after ground subsidence in early March. The site, located on an old quarry, experienced subsidence near the former quarry face. Since then, Staffordshire County Council has been working diligently to address the issue and plan for the site’s reopening.
Arrangements will be put in place at the entrance to the Wombourne HWRC site. Starting from 16 October, the site will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 3pm. Two containers will be available each day—one for cardboard and one for plastic. This interim solution will run for 8 weeks, with adjustments made based on feedback.
The county council has engaged a contractor to carry out repairs on the Wombourne HWRC site. Further information will be announced soon.
Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Change at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“We have been working hard behind the scenes to find a practical solution for South Staffordshire residents needing somewhere to dispose of their household waste. I am very pleased that we have a plan in place to provide interim services while we work on the repairs.
“We are pulling out all the stops to reopen the Wombourne site, with resident and staff safety remaining our number one priority.”
