A major highways improvements scheme at Gateway Avenue in Baldwin’s Gate in Newcastle will start on Monday 25 November.

The £170,000 scheme is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council and is part of a wider £50 million investment in the county’s roads over the next three years.

The work is expected to take around one week to complete, weather permitting, and will include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road, along with repairs and replacement of any damaged kerbs and ironwork.

To make sure the work can be carried out safely, a combination of temporary lane closures will be in operation, along with a few overnight closures (from 7pm to 6am) for the resurfacing.  A signed diversion will be in place during the closures and access to businesses and residents in the works area will be maintained where possible.

Mark Deaville, Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Good roads are essential for people and for our local economy, which is why we are investing more than £50 million in highways over the next three years.

It’s great to see yet another scheme getting underway in the borough and I’m sure people who use the road will appreciate the smoother journeys.  Crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum and would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation.”
