A bus service is currently being trialled, linking Tamworth to the National Memorial Arboretum near Alrewas.

The new service, operated by Diamond Buses, connects Tamworth Rail Station to the Arboretum and calls via Alrewas Village. This allows for connections with the existing 12 Bus Service to Burton and Lichfield, which was previously the closest bus service to the Arboretum.

Funded by the government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) and managed by Staffordshire County Council, this service provides a greener, accessible travel option for those wanting to travel to the Arboretum’s 150-acre estate.

It runs every hour between 9.30am and 5.48pm between Mondays and Saturdays and 10.30am and 5.48pm on Sundays.

Single tickets cost just £2 per journey and Staffordshire Knot tickets are also valid on this service. National Concessionary pass holders can travel free.

Rob Pritchard, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways south, said:

“We are thrilled to launch this new bus service which connects the West Coast Main Line and the Burton/Derby Line directly to the National Memorial Arboretum via Tamworth. Helping more visitors to access the Arboretum via national and regional train services.

“It also provides Tamworth residents with an affordable and sustainable option to travel to the Arboretum with ease. At this time of the year, easy access to the Arboretum helps people to pay their respects to the brave service men and women of our proud nation.

“I hope everyone takes advantage of this fantastic service to explore one of our most valued landmarks."

The National Memorial Arboretum is a place of remembrance and peace.  There are over 420 memorials that honour service and sacrifice to our country including from the Armed Forces, Emergency Services and civilian organisations. Entry to the Arboretum is free of charge; parking charges apply.
