Twenty repair jobs completed on key road in Cheadle

Tean Road NEWSROOM

The A522 Tean Road in Cheadle has undergone 20 road repairs in the last week.

Extensive road improvements have been completed in Cheadle, thanks to highways investment in the area.

Highways crews carried out 20 repair jobs on the A522 Tean Road between the junction of Charles Street to the junction of Huntley Lane.

The work, which started on Monday November 4, included filling potholes, refreshing road markings, hedge cutting and fixing kerbs, ironwork, footways and signs.

The repairs were completed with minimal disruption, requiring only a single road closure for five hours on Thursday, November 7 so that road markings could be refreshed.

Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

“I am pleased that these essential improvements on Tean Road have been completed with minimal disruption to the Cheadle community.

“Quality roads are vital for safe and efficient travel and this investment demonstrates our commitment to keeping Staffordshire’s highways in excellent condition.

“We are aware that there are some outstanding defects still awaiting repairs near the junction of Freehay Road. This is because of the thick concrete underneath the road surface making these potholes particularly tricky to fix. Crews have been deployed to the area today to make the necessary repairs.

“I want to thank local residents and businesses for their patience and support during the works. With these improvements now complete, Tean Road will be safer and more reliable for everyone who uses it.”

This road improvement project is part of Staffordshire County Council’s additional £50 million investment dedicated to maintaining and improving highways over the next three years. This funding is in addition to the £53 million allocated this year for major infrastructure projects, essential road upgrades and general road maintenance.

Earlier this year, the county council also committed an extra £8 million to address more potholes and drainage issues across Staffordshire.
