The newly reconstructed Coton Lane in Tamworth.

The £1.6 million carriageway reconstruction project on Coton Lane is now complete, marking the successful delivery of a key milestone in Staffordshire County Council’s highways improvement program.

Crews have fully resurfaced the C03070 Coton Lane, spanning from the junction of the A513 Comberford Road to the southern junction of Fontenaye Road.

This major project, which began in September, involved repairing footways, drains, kerbs, and crossings before undertaking the complete reconstruction of the road surface.

The scheme was completed on Friday 13 September, right on schedule, despite delays caused by stormy weather and recent emergency gas works in the area.

Rob Pritchard, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Support Member for Highways South, said:

“We’re delighted to announce the completion of the major Coton Lane reconstruction project. This is fantastic news for Tamworth residents and everyone who relies on this key route.

“The improvements to Coton Lane mean smoother, safer and more reliable journeys for all road users.

“We want to thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding during the works, which was key in ensuring our crews could get the work done as safely and efficiently as possible.”

Coton Lane’s reconstruction is part of the county council’s £50 million investment into local roads over three years, which will also see improvements to Aldergate, Upper Gungate, Lichfield Street, and Lichfield Road in the coming months.
