Motorists across Staffordshire are being reminded to take care on the roads, as heavy rain and potential wintery showers on higher ground could make driving conditions difficult.
A Met Office Yellow weather warning for rain for the area is in place from this evening (31 January) to New Year’s Day, which could see incidents of surface water flooding or debris on the roads.
With a further risk of wintery showers and winds on the higher ground, the county’s gritting crews are also standing by, ready for action as required.
People who need to travel are being asked to take extra care when on the roads, to allow extra time for journeys and to drive to the conditions.
Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:
“With some heavy rain expected over the next few days and a risk of wintery showers on higher ground, I’d like to remind people who need to travel to take particular care.
“People should slow down, leave plenty of room between themselves and the car in front of them and drive to the conditions. Please also be aware that there could be fallen trees, debris or surface flooding around any corner. And please don’t drive through flooded sections of roads, as it’s difficult to tell how deep the water is.”
