Next stage of Burton road repair scheme set to start in New Year

Posted on Friday 20th December 2024
Horninglow Road N NEWSROOM

Horninglow Road North, in Burton, on completion of the first phase of the road improvement project back in March.

The second phase of a significant highways improvement project in Burton is set to begin next month, bringing essential upgrades to one of the town's key routes.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews will begin reconstructing the A511 Horninglow Road North, from the junction of Farm Road to Tutbury Road, on Monday 13 January.

This £645,000 project will include the full resurfacing of both the Field Lane and Calais Road junctions.

Crews will also jet the highway gullies and manholes and carry out repairs to footpaths, kerbs, tactile crossings, ironworks and drainage systems.

Initial civil works will be carried out between 7.30am and 4pm and temporary traffic lights will be in place at all times.

Resurfacing will begin in early February under full road closures, which are expected to last around two weeks. During this period, a clearly signed diversion route will be in place to minimise disruption, and access to homes and businesses will be maintained whenever it is safe to do so.

The scheme is, overall, expected to take around five weeks to complete.

Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

“It’s fantastic to see these improvements to Horninglow Road North going ahead in the New Year, following the excellent work our crews delivered on the first phase earlier this year. I’m confident these further improvements will make a real difference to road users in Burton.

“This project is part of a major road repair programme we’re delivering in Burton, which has already seen key routes like Derby Road, Swan Junction, Station Road, and the junction of Horninglow Street and Guild Street improved.

“We remain committed to delivering these essential improvements, helping to keep Burton’s roads safe, smooth, and reliable for everyone.”

The first phase of works – costing £900,000 – was carried out earlier this year, which saw crews resurface Horninglow Road North from the junction of Horninglow Croft to the junction of Farm Road.
