LATEST NEWS BLUEGREEN

People are being urged to take extra care if they need to travel on Friday and Saturday with storm force winds and heavy rain forecast.

Storm Darragh is set to hit western parts of England on Saturday, which could bring winds of up to 60mph and heavy rain to Staffordshire. Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are in place for the West Midlands from today until Sunday morning.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways Mark Deaville said people should check their local forecast and take extra care when travelling if they need to go out.

He added:

While the worst of Storm Darragh will hit the north and west of the country, Staffordshire will be affected according to current forecasts.

This could mean surface water flooding on roads and fallen branches and debris. People should check their local forecast and avoid travel during the worst of the weather if possible. If they come across flooded roads, they should not attempt to drive through the flood water.

Our highways crews will be out over the weekend dealing with any incident wherever necessary. People can report incidents on the roads to us via our Report It webpage.”

People can sign up to receive flood alerts in their area on the government webpage.
