People travelling across Staffordshire today are being urged to take extra care with a yellow warning for strong winds in place throughout the day and evening.
Highways teams have already cleared five fallen trees which were causing obstructions on roads and are prepared for more today due to the effects of Storm Éowyn.
And with another yellow warning in place on Sunday and into Monday – this time for potentially heavy rainfall – people should be aware of potential road surface water and not attempt to drive through flooded roads.
Fallen trees on roads, and any road fault or defect, can be reported to the highways team on the transformed ReportIt system which was relaunched this week. The new system is more user friendly and gives people the option of having their own account where they can track the progress of their reported issue.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways Mark Deaville said:
We’re experiencing high wind speeds across the county now and expect these to continue through today. They will be strong enough to bring down branches and maybe some trees so we’d ask people to drive with care and be vigilant.
Our teams have already been out clearing trees from roads and are prepared for the rest of the day. People can report fallen trees and debris on our roads on the newly improved Report It system.
On Sunday and into Monday, with another weather alert in place for heavy rain, we’d again ask people to take care and drive to the conditions.”
People can find out more about the new Report It system on the county council’s Report It explainer webpage.
