Highways crews have begun carrying out pothole repairs on a key route in Tamworth to prepare the road to have a new top surface laid.
This work, called ‘pre-patching’, started on Monday 20 January along the B5493 Lichfield Street in Bolebridge and is expected to take around a week to complete.
Pre-patching is an integral part of preparing roads for surface dressing, a treatment that can extend the life of roads by up to 15 years.
Surface dressing can only be carried out between spring and autumn because it requires dry conditions and mild temperatures, so Lichfield Road will undergo surface treatment during this time.
Rob Pritchard, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Support Member for Highways South, said:
“This road was a high priority for repairs, so it’s great to see the work now underway. Our crews are currently patching potholes along this route to ensure it’s ready for a new, smoother surface to be laid when conditions are suitable later this year.
“The county council is dedicated to improving more roads, which is why we’ve invested an additional £8 million to tackle potholes and drainage issues across Staffordshire. I’d like to thank all Tamworth residents and businesses in the area for their patience while this important work takes place.”
This scheme is part of Staffordshire County Council’s £45 million commitment to maintaining and improving highways over three years.
Other areas in the Tamworth town area, scheduled to receive a carriageway preventative treatment this spring and summer, include:
- A0051 Lichfield Road.
- A0051 Anker Drive.
- A0051 Bolebridge Street.
- A0051 Tamworth Road.
- A0453 Bonehill Road
