Students from Two Rivers Special High School
Pupils at Two Rivers School in Tamworth are making music thanks to a donation of musical instruments donated by Staffordshire County Council and charity Make Some Noise.
The helping hand for the budding young musicians included, keyboards, amps, microphones and microphone stands with the items arriving in time for their end of term performance.
Donating musical instruments is just one part of the county councils’ efforts to give back to the community through their reuse schemes. Residents can now donate and pick up items at the county’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) through the PaintCycle, MediCycle and TechCycle rather than throwing items away.
Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for the Environment at Staffordshire County Council said:
“We are proud to support Make Some Noise in their mission to empower young people through music and creativity.
“By providing these instruments, we are not only investing in the future of our young people but donating unwanted items is also a wonderful way to recycle, giving these items a new lease of life and purpose.”
Over the past 23 years, Make Some Noise has dedicated itself to creating, running, and raising awareness for a range of programmes. This includes the ongoing inclusive Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) programme like the one at Two Rivers High, where pupils have been supported to write, compose, and perform their own music.
Tim Sharp from Make Some Noise said:
“This programme has been truly amazing. We’ve been able to watch as these young people discover and unlock their natural musical and creative skill, in a safe, supportive space.
“By donating these instruments, we’re not only ensuring that future generations at the school have access to the thrill and benefits of music and performance, we're also doing our bit for the environment by finding new homes for the items.
“Our ongoing partnership with the council means we’re able to continue running our projects. The instrument donation initiative is just a small part of a bigger picture.”
