Staffordshire’s entire gritting fleet have been out again through the night as more snow fell across the county.

After Saturday’s operations, the teams headed out across Staffordshire yesterday afternoon and into the night, with more snow beginning to fall at 3.30am this morning. Snow ploughs were in action through the night in the north of the county.

With snow turning to rain today, drivers are being reminded to take extra care with surface water on the roads as snow melts. Some minor roads have been closed due to flooding.

Cold weather is set to continue throughout this week, with sub-zero temperatures at night and so the gritting teams will be out to treat icy roads.

Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said:

The gritting teams worked through the night again on Sunday, with more snow falling in the early hours of Monday. They have done a tremendous job over the last few days to keep the roads clear across Staffordshire and will be busy this week with freezing night temperatures forecast.

As the snow melts, we expect some surface water on the roads to would ask people to drive with extra care and do not attempt to drive through flood water.”

As the cold spell continues, people are being reminded to stay warm and well, to look out for vulnerable neighbours and take care when outside.
