'The community remains concerned about long term effects of emissions from the site'

The Leader of Staffordshire County Council has reacted to news that the operator of Walleys Quarry has lost a legal application to accept waste at the site again until an appeal against the Environment Agency’s closure order can be heard.

Alan White, Leader of Staffordshire County Council, said:

I am very pleased that the issuing of the Environment Agency’s closure order has been upheld in a court of law.

It is evident to us all that emissions from this site over several years are not acceptable and are causing residents a great deal of distress.

As well as suffering the immediate day-to-day consequences of living with these terrible odours, it’s clear that the community is concerned about the long-term effects of emissions from this site.

So, I hope now that the operator’s appeal against the closure order itself can be heard as soon as possible and residents are provided with the clarity they need for the future.”
