Work on a £100,000 highways improvements scheme in Newcastle has been completed.
Highways crews from Staffordshire County Council completed the work last week on the B5367 Knutton Lane to Silverdale Road Link junction. The work included resurfacing of the road, along with repairs to ironworks and kerbs.
The scheme was completed as the county council announced up to an extra £15 million boost to additional highways investment in the county, on top of the extra £45 million over three years. The additional investment will see more repairs to potholes and drainage issues, a full preventative maintenance programme to help stop defects forming in the first place and targeted enforcement on landowners with drainage issues affecting the highway.
Mark Deaville, Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Investing in our highways is essential to keeping Staffordshire moving, and it’s great to see another scheme completed. This new surface will bring long-term benefits to everyone who travels along this route.
“I’d like to thank people and businesses for their patience while this important work was carried out.”
Simon Tagg, Leader at Newcastle Borough Council, said: “Knutton Lane is a busy road in and out of the town centre, so it’s an important scheme for the borough. I’m sure people will appreciate that these long-awaited improvements are completed and hope they enjoy the smoother journeys.”
