Cllr Mark Deaville
Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews have completed essential repairs in Leek.
Crews carried out more than 100 repairs at the Buxton Road and Stockwell Street Junction in the town. Work included fixing potholes and footpaths, repairs to damaged kerbs and ironworks, clearing drains and updating road markings and signs.
Mark Deaville, Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways at Staffordshire County Council, explained that investing in highways was essential in keeping the county moving.
Mark said:
“This is a busy part of the town with heavy traffic taking its toll on the road, so it’s great to see the repairs finished.
“Temporary traffic lights were in operation for the duration and crews kept the road closures to a minimum to help minimise disruption. They also only worked between 9:30am and 3pm, making sure they were off the roads for the peak times. As always, I’d like to thank people for their patience and co-operation while the work was done.”
The repairs are part of a wider £45 million investment by Staffordshire County Council in its roads over three years. On top of that, the authority has also recently announced up to an extra £15 million boost for highways in the county.
The investment will pay for more crews to carry out repairs to potholes and drainage issues, a full preventative maintenance programme to help stop defects forming in the first place and targeted enforcement on landowners with drainage issues affecting the highway.
