    Highways improvements underway in Stafford

Posted on Tuesday 15th April 2025
    LATEST NEWS LILAC

A major highways improvements scheme in Stafford has started this week.

The £180,000 scheme will see the reconstruction and resurfacing of the A5187 Station Road, including the approaches and exits of the Station Road/Railway Street and Victoria Road roundabout.  Crews will also carry out repairs to any damaged ironworks, drainage and kerbs.

The work is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council and is expected to take around four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The scheme has been carefully co-ordinated with other works in the town to help minimise disruption.  To make sure the work can be carried out safely, a combination of temporary lane and road closures will be in operation, along with a few overnight closures (from 8pm to 6am) for the resurfacing.  A signed diversion will be in place during the closures and access to businesses and residents in the works area will be maintained where possible.  Estimated closure dates for the resurfacing phase is 6, 7 and 8 May.

James Bailey, Assistant Director for Highways and the Built County at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Good roads are essential for people and this is an important project at the gateway to the county town for people travelling by rail.

“It’s good to see these long-awaited improvements get underway and I’m sure they’ll be welcomed by everyone who uses the road and the railway station.

“Crews will be doing their best to get the work done as quickly and safely as possible and to keep any disruption to a minimum.  This includes doing the resurfacing work overnight when the road is quieter.  The bulk of the work is also being carried out during the Easter holidays when traffic is lighter, which should also help to minimise any inconvenience.

“As ever, I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while this important work takes place.”
