Staffordshire County Council is managing a £730m budget in 2025/26.

Residents wanting to vote in local government elections on 1 May have until this Friday to ensure they can.

All Staffordshire County Council’s 62 seats are up for grabs on Thursday 1 May, with the winning party taking control of a £730 million budget in 2025/26.

Almost 300 candidates are standing in the election, but people can’t vote for them on polling day unless they’re already registered.

Pat Flaherty, Chief Executive of Staffordshire County Council, said:

The deadline for registering is 11.59pm on 11 April – which is this Friday.

So, if you’re not registered to vote, or you’re not sure, or you’ve changed address recently, then act now before it’s too late.”

People can check with their borough or district council or register online, where the process takes around five minutes.

If people are registered but are going to be away from the area on polling day, the deadline to register for a postal vote is 5pm on Monday, 14 April.

Applications can be made online, or via your borough or district council.

    Pat Flaherty added:

Staffordshire County Council’s services touch the lives of almost everyone, from our youngest residents to the oldest.

There are 298 people standing for election, holding different views about how things should be done.

If you want to influence that, make sure that you are registered to vote.”

Photo identification will be needed to vote at a polling station. Find out more here about what is acceptable.
