Pat Flaherty, Chief Executive of Staffordshire County Council, is urging residents to have their say on how the county is run.
Almost 300 people are standing as candidates in this year’s Staffordshire County Council elections.
With the deadline for nominations passed, 298 names are being put forward for election in the 62 divisions, with each division returning one councillor.
While postal votes can be cast in advance, physical voting will take place at local polling stations between 7am and 10pm on Thursday, 1st May and the final result will be known the next day.
Pat Flaherty, Chief Executive of Staffordshire County Council, said:
The County Council has an annual budget of £735 million and its services touch the lives of everyone in the county.
Whether it’s protecting vulnerable children and commissioning care for the elderly, maintaining highways and gritting in winter, or repairing schools and investing in the economy, the decisions about how these and many other important services are delivered are taken by Staffordshire residents elected by their local communities.
If people want to influence how key services are delivered on their doorstep, they should make sure they are registered in time and then cast their vote.”
- The deadline to register to vote is 11.59pm on Friday, 11th April, while the deadline to register for a postal vote is 5pm on Monday, 14th April.
- If you wish to nominate someone else to cast their vote for you at the polling station, that proxy vote must be applied for by 5pm on Wednesday, 23rd April.
- Anyone who is not registered, or is unsure whether they are, should contact their borough or district council, or they can register online.
- Photo ID is needed to vote at a polling station. Find out more here.
