Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children – UASC

Many of Staffordshire’s looked after children are Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children. The Virtual School supports the education of UASC and promotes the educational achievement of the looked after child whether they are placed in Staffordshire or out of the county.

All UASC are entitled to Pupil premium plus up to the end of Year 11 aged 16 years. This is used to support and promote their education.

Many UASC are determined and enthusiastic learners, the main barrier for UASC is a lack of English Language skills. Staffordshire Virtual School has dedicated advisors to help support the learning of UASC and to support finding education places.

When becoming a Staffordshire looked after child a Personal Education Plan (Pep) is arranged which every young person is encouraged to attend. These peps provide access to resources that are available to help support and start their learning journey.
