Plan/do

An individual healthcare plan is needed, which has been written with the child/young person, parents/carers and relevant medical professionals. The plan needs to be disseminated to all relevant staff, including supply staff.

The plan should include:

  • All medical/physical needs and implications of them for in the early years setting.
  • Skills to be taught, (e.g. self-organisation).
  • Adaptations to the physical environment, (e.g. seating).
  • Access to the nursery curriculum (e.g. reducing the demands of the activities, the use of verbal or visual cues).
  • Specific strategies (e.g. providing regular rest breaks, use of checklist to support organisation, sensory circuits, extra time for processing).
  • Alternative methods of recording for older children (e.g. matching labels to pictures/diagrams/maps)
  • Additional support for self-care is provided when required/requested.
  • Any additional equipment (e.g. pencil grips or modified scissors) that is required.
  • Any specialist equipment (e.g. wobble cushions) that is required.
  • Any additional ICT needs.
  • Any additional training needs.
  • Procedures in case of a medical emergency.
  • Involvement of the child/young person.
