Plan/do
An individual healthcare plan is needed, which has been written with the child/young person, parents/carers and relevant medical professionals. The plan needs to be disseminated to all relevant staff, including supply staff.
The plan should include:
- All medical/physical needs and implications of them for in the early years setting.
- Skills to be taught, (e.g. self-organisation).
- Adaptations to the physical environment, (e.g. seating).
- Access to the nursery curriculum (e.g. reducing the demands of the activities, the use of verbal or visual cues).
- Specific strategies (e.g. providing regular rest breaks, use of checklist to support organisation, sensory circuits, extra time for processing).
- Alternative methods of recording for older children (e.g. matching labels to pictures/diagrams/maps)
- Additional support for self-care is provided when required/requested.
- Any additional equipment (e.g. pencil grips or modified scissors) that is required.
- Any specialist equipment (e.g. wobble cushions) that is required.
- Any additional ICT needs.
- Any additional training needs.
- Procedures in case of a medical emergency.
- Involvement of the child/young person.
