Middle school healthy eating
Middle schools are a stepping-stone between primary and high schools.
Now more than ever children need to make informed choices about their diet - school, as a place of education, has a crucial part to play in promoting the message about healthy lifestyles.
For young people a healthy diet means:
- a balanced diet with plenty of variety and enough energy for growth and development
- sufficient fibre-rich starchy foods
- plenty of fruit and vegetables
- not eating too many foods containing a lot of fat, especially saturated fat
- modest amounts of dairy products
- moderate amounts of meat, fish or alternatives
- not having sugary foods and drinks too often
Starting at a new school?
When starting a new school young people are faced with lots of changes.
To help them find their feet in the dining room all new intake pupils will receive a welcome leaflet introducing the school meals service. It answers some of the questions parents/carers and young people may have.
