Sharing public notices

Everybody wants to know what’s going on in their neighbourhood, whether it’s the latest planning applications, changes to roads or alterations to public rights of way.

Councils have to publish legal announcements for these changes called public notices. These outline the exact details of each scheme or project. At the moment they have to be published in a very particular way in local newspapers. Now you have a chance to help shape the way people receive this vital information in the future.

We are taking part in a pilot project set up by Central Government to explore alternative ways of sharing Public Notices. We are working closely together with three other councils, Stoke-on-Trent City, Stafford Borough and Newcastle Borough, and with newspaper owners Local World Group. 

We need to hear what you think. Local World is organising readers’ panels in each pilot area to gather your views on whether the way public notices are currently circulated works for you, or whether it could be improved or updated.
