Suicide prevention in Staffordshire

We're working in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, local hospitals,  NHS community organisations, voluntary and community groups across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to prevent suicide and better support those affected by it.

Joint suicide prevention campaign

In 2020 the partnership launched a communications campaign called #TalkSuicide.

The campaign aims to increase awareness about suicide and challenge the myths and stigma that surround it.

Suicide prevention strategy

Our partnership approach to suicide prevention is set out in the strategy Saving Lives: Staffordshire Suicide Prevention Strategy 2015/16 to 2020/21.

The document below is available to download and print out:

  • Saving Lives: Staffordshire Suicide Prevention Strategy 2015/16 to 2020/21 (1.2 MB)

What are the aims of this strategy?

We want a multi-agency approach that will reduce the suicide rate and better support those affected by suicide in Staffordshire. To achieve this we have the following objectives:

  • to implement the local elements of the national suicide prevention strategy

  • to promote a life course approach to suicide prevention, better understanding the circumstances that might prompt people to desperate measures and to recognise the key risk groups for Staffordshire

  • to provide a shared and valid baseline for measuring improvement in reducing suicide rates

  • to address the Staffordshire Children’s Board serious case review recommendation regarding reducing suicide and self-harm in adolescents.

  • to work across partners and with stakeholders to better understand effective interventions that will improve the current provision of services.

  • to influence the commissioning intentions of local commissioners to address any identified gaps.
