Free access to original or copy records in our search rooms. We may charge a fee to carry out the research necessary to tell you whether or not we hold specific information and for copies. Most records are open for general access, but a few are closed in whole or in part because information in them is exempt information under the Freedom of Information Act or the Environmental Information Regulations. Restrictions are indicated in our catalogues and will be reviewed on request. Enquiries and requests for review of restricted records should be sent to the County Archivist, Staffordshire Record Office, Eastgate street, Stafford ST16 2LZ.
Digitised copies / versions of selected archives
Some documents held by the Archive Service have been digitised and are available through specific projects and a range of online exhibitions. These include Staffordshire Places, Staffordshire Pasttrack, and the Archive Discovery Zone. They are free online but we charge a fee for any copies requested.
Requests for copies of records available through these websites are treated as requests for goods and services, not requests for information. Requests for information which require a search to locate specific information are handled as requests for information in the class 'The Archives' above.
