Reader Registration - William Salt Library
The William Salt Library, Stafford, and the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service operate an independent reader registration system. County Archive Research Network tickets are, therefore, not valid at our service points, although they may be used as proof of identity and address.
On your first visit to one of our service points you will be asked to complete a registration card so that we can issue a reader's ticket to you. You will also be required to produce proof of both identity and permanent address (see lists below). There is no need to obtain a reader's ticket in advance of your visit.
As part of the registration process readers agree to accept the terms layed out on the Code of Conduct webpage.
Please note that items in the Library collection cannot be consulted until the registration procedure has been completed.
Validity and renewal
Readers' tickets are valid at the William Salt Library, and all of the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service points, for two years. They may be renewed at any of these service points on production of proof of identity and address.
Acceptable proofs of identity and address
To be acceptable as proof of identity and/or address a document must be official or semi-official, preferably an item from the lists below, which are not definitive but are given for guidance. Other documents may be accepted at the discretion of the Head of Archive Services. If you are in any doubt as to the acceptability of any document please contact us in advance of your visit.
