Peter Shakespear

Director of Finance

What is his role? 

 

The Director of Finance is the Council’s Chief Financial Officer and Advisor. Pete hasPeter Shakespear  - Director of Finance been the Council’s Statutory Officer, under section 151 of the Local Government 1972, since 2024 involving responsibility for the proper administration of the Council’s financial affairs. 

This includes responsibility for a wide range of financial services ranging from budget setting to paying creditors and banking income, financial reporting, managing the pension fund, responsibility for the council’s investment/long term debt and day-to-day cash management arrangements, internal audit and risk management, main financial systems, and the provision of sound financial advice to councillors, officers and partners.

What experience does he have? 

Pete has worked in local government finance for 16 years, qualifying with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in 2011. Over this time, he has held many senior finance positions including roles with Essex County Council and South Staffordshire District Council.

He is also the section 151 officer for the Midlands Engine.
