Lichfield housing

As a care leaver, you have priority for housing in Lichfield. You can apply for housing at 17.5 years old - ask your personal advisor for support.

You make a housing application via Housing Jigsaw.

Your personal advisor will support you to upload all the relevant documents to support your application. This will include ID, proof of benefits and 3 months of bank statements. They will also provide you with a supporting letter which will detail your care leaver status.

You are automatically classed as being in 'priority need' until your twenty first birthday, which means that the housing options team will support you to find a place to live.

You may be entitled to a budgeting loan to help pay for any rent in advance, moving expenses or household items - this loan would be paid back via your benefits.

Lichfield District Council works closely with Staffordshire Leaving Care Team to help ensure leavers' first tenancies are successful and that they can achieve independent living with the support of our Tenancy Sustainment Officer.

Remember

  • Ensure all documents are uploaded
  • Make sure your banding is correct
  • Attend all appointments and answer phone calls to housing.

Please note: Be open minded to different areas. Work with your Personal Adviser to get the best outcome.
