Assessment, identification and monitoring

The Key Person:

  • uses their knowledge of the child (e.g. developmental levels, observations, discussions with children) to gain a better understanding of individual children’s developmental level and to identify the barriers to their development in the nursery
  • seeks the necessary information about the child, e.g. from parents/carers, previous settings
  • maintains records about the child that are kept securely but are accessible to the relevant people, whilst fulfilling GPDR requirements.  Records are retained in accordance to the relevant legislation
  • is aware of the targets/outcomes that the children with SEND are working towards
  • monitors the engagement of the children and plan appropriate interventions that can be delivered within nursery through the early years curriculum
  • is aware of who to share information with if they have any concerns about a child
  • has developed a positive relationship with the child and parents/carers
  • has an awareness of dynamics of groups of children, any cultural considerations and family dynamics as well as the individual development of the child
