Bikeability National Standard Cycle Training
Bikeability National Standard Cycle Training
Cycle training for children and students in Staffordshire schools is fully funded by Active Travel England through the Bikeability Trust. Delivered on behalf of Staffordshire County Council by BikeRight. There are 16,000 training places available across the three levels of training and supporting modules. 8,000 of these places are for Bikeability Level 2 Training which is on road training aimed at year 5 or 6 pupils. Every school in Staffordshire is offered the opportunity to participate in this level of training.
For information about all the levels of training, the programme background and the aims of providing cycle training please see The Bikeability Trust Website for further information. There are also supporting curriculum tools and ideas for teaching staff to help you bring Bikeability and cycling into your classroom.
Additional Training
Staffordshire has a small number of Bikeability Plus funding to allow selected schools that are keen to promote cycling to school to take part in these additional training opportunities. These include:
- Bikeability Balance – allows Reception or Year 1 pupils to develop skills required for level 1 and build confidence.
- Bikeability Learn to Ride – allows pupils to gain additional assistance to allow them to take part in Level 1 Bikeability Training and can be delivered to pupils that cannot ride unaided regardless of year group.
- Bikeability Fix – helps pupils learn the essentials of cycle maintenance and ensure their bike is roadworthy, usually delivered to year 6 pupils.
These additional modules are limited in numbers, and we cannot offer these sessions to all Staffordshire schools.
