Volunteer Visitor Centre Assistant - Cannock Chase

Description of the role:

Do you like meeting new people? Are you enthusiastic about wildlife and the countryside and enjoy inspiring others to feel the same? Then this volunteering role could be for you.

We are offering a new and exciting role at Cannock Chase Visitor Centre, at Cannock Chase. You will be part of our small and friendly team who provide a warm welcome to all the visitors to the centre. No experience is necessary, all we ask for is your enthusiasm to make your time with us a positive experience and a minimum commitment of half a day per month or more.

We have available volunteering positions at Cannock Chase Visitor Centre.

The volunteering sessions are on: 

  • Fridays 10am – 3pm.
  • Saturdays 10am -3pm.
  • Sundays 10am -3pm.

Location: Cannock Chase Visitor Centre, Cannock Chase Country Park, Marquis Drive, Hednesford, Nr. Cannock, Staffordshire, WS12 4PW

 

More about Cannock Chase Country Park:

Cannock Chase Country Park is one of the largest country parks in England and covers 3000 acres (1214 hectares) which is just 26 square miles. Created for William the Conqueror as a hunting forest 1000 years ago, it is rich in history, culture and wildlife, with much to explore and enjoy.

Today, Cannock Chase is a mosaic of different habitats, including heaths, forests, wood-pasture, wetlands and farmland.  Approximately 58% of Cannock Chase in open access land, where the public has a right to roam on foot. With its dramatic scenery, it is also popular for family cycling, following a network of designated cycle trails. Bridleways provide some of the most extensive and picturesque off-road horseback riding in England.

 Tasks you may be involved in include:

  • Meeting and greeting visitors.
  • Helping with site and centre enquiries.
  • Keeping the Visitor Centre and surrounding areas tidy and welcoming.
  • Assisting with events.
  • Selling of shop retail items and information leaflets.
  • Cash handling.

The essential requirements of the role are to:

  • Be able to represent Staffordshire County Council (SCC) in a positive manner.
  • Have the ability to work in an unbiased and diplomatic manner.
  • Have a friendly and positive attitude with good communication skills.
  • Be able to follow instruction.
  • Have a love for the countryside.
  • Attend SCC volunteer training and any other relevant courses.
  • Agree to wear suitable clothing and footwear.

What we will provide:

  • An initial induction and training.
  • Help and guidance with any queries.
  • SCC polo shirt.
