The years from birth to age five are considered key developmental years, as what happens during the Early Years has livelong effects on many aspects of a child’s development including their emotional health, learning and behaviour. Although infant mortality rates have gone down across Staffordshire, there is still work to be done to reduce it further. Similarly although early years foundation stage performs well across Staffordshire as a whole, children reliant on free school meals, receiving special needs support or subject to a EHCP are less likely to achieve a good level of development.
