Animal bedding
Home composting
If the soiled bedding is from vegetarian animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamster etc.), bedding such as sawdust shavings, shredded paper, straw or hay can be home composted. Do not place waste from a meat eating animal in the compost bin.
Recycle
Check with your local council to see if animal bedding from a vegetarian animal can be placed in the kerbside garden waste bin.
Recovery (restrictions apply)
A daily disposal limit of 2 bags (80 litres or equivalent x 2) of animal bedding per household is in place at Staffordshire’s recycling centres. Waste placed in the residual waste skip will be sent to one of Staffordshire’s energy recovery plants.
For restricted waste, residents may be required to complete a ‘disclaimer form’ to declare that the waste is from their household, has not arisen as a result of commercial use and to acknowledge that a limit applies to the quantities of waste they are entitled to deposit at the recycling centre.
