Staffordshire Police and Crime Panel - Confirmation Hearing - Proposed appointment of Helen Fisher as Deputy Police Fire and Crime Commissioner

Report of the Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel (The Panel) to the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire (PFCC)

With regard to:

Staffordshire Police and Crime Panel - confirmation hearing - proposed appointment of Helen Fisher as Deputy Police Fire and Crime Commissioner

As required under Schedule 1 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011, I write to inform you of the Staffordshire Police Fire and Crime Panel’s recommendation with regard to your proposal to appoint Helen Fisher as your Deputy Police Fire and Crime Commissioner.

At its Confirmation Hearing held on Monday 21 June 2021, Helen Fisher gave a brief summary of her personal and business achievements and her skills and personal strengths which would help her fulfil the role. The panel asked a number of questions aimed at determining Helens ‘professional competence’ and ‘personal independence’. We adopted these two themes following nationally recognised guidance on confirmation hearings. Helens experience in the communities and her ability to engage and empower will no doubt be an asset in the role.

During the Panels private deliberations, various members were able to recite examples of Helens skills and experience which they had personally witnessed during her time as both a local and county councillor which we felt would help her support you as Commissioner. The whole Panel were extremely supportive of her appointment.

The Panel’s role is to recommend that an appointment be made or that an appointment not be made. In this instance we unanimously agreed to recommend that an appointment be made. On behalf of the Panel may I formally congratulate Helen on her appointment and wish her every success as Deputy Commissioner.

Yours sincerely

Councillor B Peters

Chairman
Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel
