The agreed syllabus and teaching resources

An agreed syllabus for religious education is a document that outlines the curriculum for religious education in schools.

It is created by a local authority’s Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) in consultation with local religious groups and other stakeholders.

The syllabus is designed to provide a framework for teaching religious education in a way that is inclusive, balanced, and relevant to the local community, and is intended to reflect the religious diversity of the area and to promote understanding and respect for different faiths and beliefs.

The syllabus is reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains up-to-date and relevant.

In our last SACRE Committee held in June 2024, information was shared on connecting Religious Education/Religious Studies with Equality/Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
