South Staffordshire walks

Acton Trussell and Bednall circular walk

Distance: 4 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 and a half to 2 hours
Starting point: Parkgate Bridge
Facilities: Parking is available in the lay-by at Parkgate Bridge.

The walk begins on the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal which is one of the oldest in the country, before crossing farmland around Bednall and Acton Trussell. The walk concludes along the Staffordshire Way which takes the walker across the Teddesley Park estate.

 

Bobbington and Highgate Common circular walk

Distance: 4.5 miles (short walk), 8 miles (long walk) 
Estimated walk time: 2 and a half to 3 hours (short walk), 4 hours (long walk).
Starting point: Red Lion Pub, Bobbington.

Facilities: Parking is available at the Red Lion pub, please ask permission from the landlord or leave a note on your car if the pub is closed.

The walk takes you through the woodlands and heathlands at Highgate Common before passing the popular airfield at Halfpenny Green.

 

Codsall to Chillington Hall circular walk

Distance: 7 miles
Estimated walk time: 3 to 4 miles
Starting point: Codsall town car park

Facilities: Parking at Codsall town car park (OS866037). There are pubs and shops in Codsall and a pub at Codsall Wood. 

A walk from Codsall which follows the Staffordshire Way northwards before passing around Chillington Hall and its parkland. The walk then follows an old trackway through woodland before returning to Codsall through Codsall Wood and the graveyard of St Nicholas's Church.

 

Wheaton Ashton and Lapley circular walk

Distance: 7.5 miles
Estimated walk time: 3 and a half to 4 hours
Starting point: Wheaton Aston village hall.

Facilities: Parking is available at the Village Hall car park, Hawthorne Road in Wheaton Aston. There are several pubs on the route.

The walk begins in Wheaton Aston, and goes across some of the finest farmland in the county. The walk continues through Lapley village, and ending with a walk along the Shropshire Union Canal.
