Eating a healthy, balanced diet

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of achieving and maintaining good health and a healthy weight. This means eating a wide variety of foods, in the right amounts.

The Eatwell Guide shows how much of what we eat should come from each food group to achieve a balanced diet. Having at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day brings health benefits. That's 5 portions of fruit and veg in total, not 5 portions of each. Learn more about 5 A Day portion sizes.  Almost all fruit and vegetables count towards your 5 A Day. They can be fresh, frozen, canned, dried or juiced. Learn more about what counts towards your 5 A Day
