CX031 Phases of work letter to residents
CX031 - Notification of carriageway reconstruction works on the C0370 Coton Lane, Tamworth

Dear Resident,
Following on from the letter that was sent out on the 16 August 2024 regarding the upcoming works on the C0370 Coton Lane, from the junction of the A513 Comberford Road and the southern junction of Fontenaye Road, we are now able to provide you with more details regarding the carriageway reconstruction works, surfacing phases and road marking phase, along with details about the road closures and access arrangements during this work.
Phase 2
From 07.30am on Monday 21 October until Wednesday 23 October 2024, Staffordshire County Council will be carrying out utility survey works along Coton Lane, ahead of the carriageway reconstruction works.
During this time, road closure positions on Coton Lane will vary dependent on the section where we are surveying.
Access for residents during this time will be via the local signed diversion route. Designated personnel at the closure points will offer advice and assist with residential access when safe to do so.
The road will be closed from 07.30am and will reopen by 3pm.
Phase 3
From 07.30am on Thursday 21 October until Wednesday 4 December 2024, we’ll begin our carriageway reconstruction works, this will include the re-setting and replacement of carriageway ironwork and the removal of the existing carriageway and strengthening the subbase ahead of re-surfacing the carriageway.
During this time, road closure positions will vary dependent on the section where we are working.
Whilst we remove the existing carriageway and strengthen the sub-base, there will be a period of time when entering and existing driveway frontages will not be permitted due to large open excavations on the highway. Therefore, if you require the use of your vehicle at any time during this phase of the works, we would kindly ask that your vehicle(s) are parked on the highway in the signed designated parking area.
Please contact us in advance, so that we can help with any specific needs or requirements during this phase of the works.

Phase 4
From 07.30am on Thursday 5 December, we’ll be carrying out the carriageway re-surfacing works along Coton Lane.
During this time, road closure positions will vary dependent on the section where we are resurfacing. Outside of the re-surfacing works, Coton Lane will re-open at 5pm.
The carriageway re-surfacing works are due to be completed by Sunday 8 December 2024.
Phase 5
From 07.30am on Monday 9 December 2024, we’ll begin our final phase of the scheme of works, the replacement of road markings.
During this time, road closure positions on Coton Lane will vary dependent on the section where we are working.
Outside of the road markings works, Coton Lane will re-open at 5pm. The road markings works are due to be completed by Friday 13 December 2024.
Please see the table on page 3, which provides details about the road closures, duration and details about the phases of work.
- A primary road diversion route will be in place for through traffic during the closures.
- Local signed diversion route will be in place during the closures; along with designated personnel at either end of the closure points to offer advice and assist with access when safe to do so to residential properties and businesses. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys.
- Pedestrian access along the length of the works will be maintained throughout.
- Bus stops along Coton Lane will be suspended during the road closures. If you require any further information about this service, please speak to your bus operator.
- Unfortunately, with any major highway works, some disturbance is unavoidable, and there may be short delays even on the approaches to the closure points. I must ask that you drive carefully and slowly through any sections of live roadworks for both the workforces and your own safety.
- During the road closure period, waste and recycling collections will remain the same, on their normal collection days.
- Please note that all dates are subject to change due to operational requirements and weather conditions. Weekend working may be used where necessary.
- The works may at times be noisy, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disturbance caused. We’ll do our best to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible. We like to thank you for your patience during this works.
