There are 34,753 Lower Layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in England (32,844) and Wales (1,909).
These were first built using 2001 Census data from groups of Output Areas (typically four to six) and have been updated following the 2011 Census. They have an average of 1,600 residents and 670 households.
1.1% of LSOAs were changed following the 2011 Census. In Staffordshire there has been a small change to LSOAs which can be viewed in the excel spreadsheet below with M meaning areas have been merged, S meaning areas have been split and U meaning areas are unchanged:
