Active travel fund public consultation

Public consultation on our active travel fund schemes took place between 12 February and 12 March 2021.

We consulted on proposals to improve footways and cycle routes in parts of Cannock, Stafford, Burton upon Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Through the public consultation we found out what local people, organisations / businesses and their employees think. 1,451 responses were received and the results of the survey can be viewed on the below pages:

In order to help you understand our proposals we have created a map of each scheme location, including descriptions of the proposed improvements, an accompanying short information video for you to watch about each scheme and an artists impression of what a stepped cycle path (812 KB) could look like. You can view these by clicking on the area buttons below.

Local authorities were invited by central Government to bid for additional money to invest in improving the environment for both walking and cycling.  Successful bids needed to include schemes that meaningfully reallocate road space to cyclists and pedestrians.

Local knowledge was used to identify the most promising locations for new cycleways that could be delivered swiftly and would meet government guidelines. Locations prioritised in the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan were also considered, where data indicates there is likely to be the highest levels of cycling.
