Cycle parking and LCT project
Do you cycle in Staffordshire? Do you know of a location which needs cycle parking?
Please share with us your ideas!
Staffordshire County Council is working in partnership with Sustrans to find out where we need cycle parking provision and improvements to the walking and cycling network.
We wish to look at existing cycle parking provision across the county and find out where we should look to install more cycle stands. This piece of work will be primarily focused on Burton, Tamworth and Newcastle.
Live outside these areas?
If you live elsewhere in the county, please do tell us more about where you live. All feedback will help shape the future for cycling and walking across the county.
We have created a survey and an interactive map which will allow you to select a suitable location for cycle parking or comment on existing provision. Perhaps an area needs better lighting? Or is there a location which needs more stands?
We are also keen to collect your views and experiences of cycling across the county. Feel free to share your thoughts and we will use this knowledge to aid our knowledge of areas we should focus funding or maintenance budgets.
Top tips for keeping your bike safe
Our top tips for keeping your cherished bike safe are:
- Use a cycle stand where possible to ensure your bike is safely locked.
- A location which is busy or at least overlooked at all times of the day
- Use a good quality D lock or another suitable lock with a loop for wheels.
- Choose a location which is well lit
- If there are bikes which have been damaged or frames with wheels missing then don’t use this location.
- If in doubt, many places will let you take your bike in with them, or ask someone local about other places you can store your bike.
Livable cities and towns project
Cities and towns should be places that prioritise the people who live and spend time there. For too long they have been designed around cars, leaving less space for walking, cycling and spending time in; things that make our lives better and add to our happiness.
Car-dominated spaces create congestion and damage our environment and health. They harm people who are already disadvantaged the most. Our cities and towns can – and should – be designed with everyone’s health and wellbeing in mind, rather than cars.
Staffordshire County Council have created a partnership with Sustrans to fund a Liveable Cities and Towns Officer for the region. The idea for this role is to imbed a holistic approach to active travel and place making into all that we do.
We will not be working alone to create liveable towns and cities. We will bring together the people who live and spend time there, including those with seldom-heard voices, to make the change they want to see.
More about Sustrans
Sustrans are a charity making it easier to walk and cycle. We are the custodians of the National Cycle Network is a UK-wide network of signed paths and routes for walking, cycling, wheeling and exploring outdoors. We also bring people together to create places with clean air and green spaces, where friends and facilities are just a short walk away. We believe that is important to design our cities and towns so that everyone can thrive without having to use a car.
